Sounds familiar...

We saw it the other day at the BFI, where they´ve been showing a Burton retrospective.

She has great taste in directors. I love that movie. I think the scene where he & Patricia Arquette stall in their car in the dark haunted house is one of the most touching moments...and of course the awful clip with Martin as Bela smelling the rose...a shiv! A shiv I tell ya! I love watching (and singing) songs from The Nightmare Before Christmas and last night it was on Disney (but a bad print! it was damaged!) and Lee and I fell right into it again! I didn't realize he didn't direct that though...it's just his world...he neither wrote nor directed it...I love the vampires in that and of course Lock Shock and Barrel are awesome...one of them is Paul Rubens aka Pee Wee Herman...and Glenn Shadix (the awesome preacher: "Let's just hope she's rubbing noses with JESUS!" from Heathers) is the mayor in Nightmare. Several of the actors are recycled to play several characters. I was surprised to learn Sally is Catherine O'Hara...from his Beetlejuice...there are of course visual quotes of Beetlejuice in Nightmare...like the zebra-striped sand serpent who is eating the Christmas tree in one scene. Burton is awesome...up there with Chaplin and the rest.

ernesto: so what did you think of the film?

bill: saw that the nightmare before christmas was on the disney channel last night. we've been looking for a dvd of the movie but it seems to be out of print. i think burton was the producer of the film and by the look, feel and sound of the movie, he had a lot to say about it's production.

that scene where depp confesses his predilections for women's clothes and arquettes loving acceptance: mindblowing.

ed. scissorhands another masterpiece, too.

but let's not forget wood. brilliant, weird, choppy works by a mad genius.

I loved Ed Wood. I'm also a Mars Attack! fan, so you should probably take that into account as well.

I can't wait to see the new Burton musical film!

Happy holidays!

ernesto, i'm not sure about mars attacks! love the concept just the execution left me cold. but then i saw it years ago at a time when my mental state was rather rattled. what i should do is have myself a burton mini-festival and watch his collected works one weekend. perhaps watch them chronologically from his first to most recent.
